The Foundation aims to invest in activities that will have a long-term, sustainable influence in the preservation of Suffolk County heritage and also upon the ability of relevant organizations to carry out their missions. The attending organizations must have a historic mission and support the study, stewardship and promotion of educational aspects relating to Long Island and New York's role in American history, scholarships and historic preservation.
Three-year, $150,000 grant to support MANY's virtual programs and provide professional development opportunities for Long Island Museum professionals. Two-year $250,000 grant to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Library and Archives for STEM history program to raise public awareness of Long Island's rich history of fostering advances in science and technology. $150,000 grant to the Museum of the City of New York to digitize the Harry T. Peters papers.
Applications are routed through the Foundation's Executive Director for initial review, and the Board of Directors reviews grant applications two times per year. Applicants must be non-profit, qualifying as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code for a minimum of 3 years. If your building is owned by others such as a Municipality, Town, County, State or Village, you must have a current Stewardship Agreement (contract or lease) for a minimum of 10 years. All grants require proof of a percentage match in place at the time of request, and all permits and written bids must be in place at application submission.
No more than two proposals may be submitted in one year by any single organization or entity. No more than 20% of the Matching funds may be in-kind. Institutional staff hours do not qualify for in-kind. Grantees must agree not to discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of actual or perceived race, color, national origin, creed, age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, religion, mental and physical disability.
