AVDF funds organizations and projects across the nation that advance religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes. Since inception, the Foundations have given over 4,600 grants totaling more than $385 million to support inclusive higher education and healthcare, high-quality public media, vibrant spiritual communities, and a clean environment.
Emergent Innovations in Palliative Care partnership ($50,000-$100,000 awards); Transfer Pathways Partnership with Teagle Foundation ($6 million initiative, $25,000 planning grants, $250,000-$350,000 implementation grants); Private Higher Education grants ($25,000-$300,000); Interfaith Leadership grants ($100,000-$300,000); Fellowship Program for Liberal Arts Education research.
8-stage systematic process. Step 1: LOI required first step through AVDF portal by deadline. Step 2: Full Proposal by invitation only. Materials due by 5:00 pm ET on deadline. Board meets February and May. Project start date June 1 or later following submission year. Evaluation plan required for intervention projects.
Does not fund capital projects or endowments. Does not provide support to interfaith centers or organizations operating at local/community level. Environmental Solutions and Palliative Care programs are invitation-only (no open submissions). Only accepts requests in 2 of 5 program areas: Private Higher Education and Interfaith Leadership/Religious Literacy.
