The New York Health Foundation has a broad mission to improve the health of all New Yorkers, especially people of color and others who have been historically marginalized.
In 2025, NYHealth awarded Make the Road NY a grant to provide services in urban and rural communities and coordinate activities across partners to support a broad statewide response for immigrant health care access. In 2020, NYHealth awarded The Mission Continues a grant to combat social isolation and mental health issues among veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, NYHealth awarded NYC Health + Hospitals a grant to attend the Planetree International Conference on Person-Centered Care as part of its efforts to empower health care consumers. Approximately 5 to 15 organizations are funded annually through their $3 million Special Projects Fund. For specific RFPs like maternal health equity, NYHealth anticipates awarding approximately $1 million across 5–8 proposals, with individual projects funded up to $200,000.
All applicants must first complete a Letter of Inquiry form (LOI) through the applicant portal. After reviewing all LOIs, NYHealth staff members will invite selected applicants to submit a full proposal. Selected applicants will be e-mailed specific submission instructions. Letter of Inquiry (LOI) Due Date: March 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Full Proposal Invitation/LOI Declination Notification: April 2025. Full Proposal Due Date (invited applicants only): May 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. NYHealth allows a 15% maximum administrative overhead.
Special Projects Fund grants do not fund equipment purchases or capital expenses (e.g., building improvements). NYHealth does not support medical, biomedical, or clinical research. We do not consider health education and awareness campaigns for a Special Projects Fund grant. Research projects generally do not meet the criteria to be considered eligible for a Special Projects Fund. We have limited resources and cannot directly provide funding to backfill lost federal or State funding. Outreach programs are eligible but have traditionally been noncompetitive.
