    Mission

    The Kulas Foundation was established in 1937 by music patrons Elroy John Kulas and his wife, Fynette Hill Kulas, and has focused on music appreciation and music education in northeast Ohio. Today, the Foundation continues to focus on music and also makes grants in the areas of arts and culture, community, education and music therapy research.

    The Kulas Foundation has distributed more than $50 million in grants in the past 20 years. The foundation is the country's leading foundation for funding scientific research in music therapy and began funding music therapy research in the 1940s. Music auditoriums or buildings named for Kulas exist at the Cleveland Institute of Music, John Carroll University, the Cleveland Music School Settlement, Case Western Reserve University, and Baldwin-Wallace and Oberlin Colleges.

    Qualified nonprofit organizations can obtain a grant application form and instructions by contacting the Grants Manager, Christine Porter, at the Foundation offices. The Board of Trustees customarily meets four times annually to consider grant requests.
