    The Foundation honors its founders' vision to change the world and make it a better place for this and future generations. The Foundation is dedicated to bringing about positive change in five major urban areas - Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area and the states in which they are located - with a commitment to providing the educational and developmental opportunities that support equitable outcomes and enable all children and young people to fulfill their potential.

    Funded Initiatives

    Current Foundation has concentrated its grantmaking in three areas: early childhood development, youth development and education (with an emphasis on teacher quality and principal leadership). The Foundation distributes almost $5 million in grants each year. To date, has awarded approximately $2.2 million in grants in 2025.

    How to Apply

    The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. Staff contacts nonprofit organizations of interest for preliminary conversation. Foundation presents work to program committee of Board, reviews grantmaking possibilities. Once program committee expresses strong interest, they contact organization and work on proposal submission process. Two grant cycles per year - spring (late April/early May) and fall (late October). Timing for grants: 6 months to 1 year from initial contact.
