    The Meyer Foundation pursues and invests in solutions that build an equitable Greater Washington community in which economically disadvantaged people thrive; The foundation envisions a just, connected, and inclusive Greater Washington community in which systemic racism and its consequences no longer exist; Meyer partners with organizations that build the power of Greater Washington communities to reimagine, recreate, reform, and transform systems in the pursuit of racial and economic justice; They apply a systems approach to achieve a just, connected, and inclusive Greater Washington, with work that seeks to address root causes of racial disparities, shift policies and power to create equitable systems, and build the power of people most affected by inequity.

    Funded Initiatives

    Fund for Black-led Change (FBLC) launched in 2020 is a $20 million commitment of core support to Black-led organizations building power; Meyer awards one-year and multi-year grants for general operations and projects, with primary grantmaking strategy being to provide general operating support; Rapid response grants of $10,000 or $20,000 to support movement building, mobilization, and power building around racial justice through advocacy, organizing, and/or coalition building; In 2024, Meyer embarked on a community-centered strategic refresh to maintain commitment to investing in movements that aim to transform inequitable systems for racial and economic justice.

    How to Apply

    Meyer accepts and reviews Interest Forms on a rolling basis and will award most grants in May, August, and November. An account is required to apply for a grant, and once you click on the link to start a new Interest Form you will be directed to log into your account or create a new one. Interest Form and Proposal questions are available for download to preview or fill in before logging into the portal. Meyer accepts only one application per year per organization. If declined for funding, you must wait to apply until the following calendar year. Contact grants@meyerfdn.org or call 202-483-8294. The core grantmaking application process for 2025 is now closed, check back for 2026 plans.

    Does Not Fund

    Meyer generally does not fund organizations that primarily provide direct services; Focus support on organizations that use advocacy, community organizing and base building, and coalitions to change inequitable systems; Most organizations the Foundation supports are based in and working in Greater Washington; Meyer only awards grants to 501(c)(3) entities - organization must have public charity status or a fiscal sponsor to receive a grant; If declined for funding, must wait to apply until the following calendar year.
