    Funded Initiatives

The Foundation devotes most of its resources to the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholarship program, which provides scholarship grants for deserving female students with financial need at more than 200 colleges, universities and schools. A significant number of our grants target education in the medical, nursing and allied health fields. More than 10,000 students receive scholarships each year in individual amounts determined by their respective institutions. The Foundation has awarded more than $998 million in grants since inception.

Grant Acceptance Letter (due no later than March 15): Submit a PDF of a signed letter on letterhead confirming acceptance of our proposed grant. Grant decisions are made at the November meeting of our Board of Trustees and grant award letters are mailed in mid-January. The Foundation rarely adds new institutions to its grants program.
